KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deployment & Project Coordination • Plan and execute IoT hardware deployments tailored to client site requirements. • Perform on-site installation and configuration of our software and hardware solutions. • Coordinate with internal teams (R&D, Product, Sales) to ensure smooth installation, integration, and commissioning of devices. • Safe commissioning and handover: Perform pre-commissioning checks, functional testing, device configuration, power-on validation, signal verification, fault diagnosis, and handover documentation. • Ensure all required electrical testing, inspection, certification, or energisation approval is completed by the appropriate authorised person before equipment is placed into operation.
Electrical, Circuitry & Safe Site Installation Work • Perform low-voltage IoT electrical integration work: Carry out basic low-voltage electrical and circuitry tasks relating to IoT deployments, including device wiring, cable termination, connector assembly, sensor connection, gateway power-up, and integration with approved power sources, control panels, or industrial equipment interfaces. • Work within the authorised electrical scope: Perform only electrical work that is within the employee's competency, training, certification, and company-authorised scope. Any regulated electrical installation, modification, repair, energisation, inspection, or certification work must be carried out by, or under the supervision of, an appropriately qualified Licensed Electrical Worker, professional engineer, client appointed electrical contractor, or other authorised person as required by applicable laws and site requirements. • Handle low-voltage DC and industrial power interfaces safely: Work primarily with low-voltage DC systems, typically including 5V, 12V, and 24V DC systems, and understand safe working principles when interfacing IoT equipment with industrial AC power supplies, control panels, isolators, power distribution points, and other electrical infrastructure.
Infrastructure Management • Maintain the stability and reliability of deployed IoT systems to ensure uninterrupted data flow and operation. • Monitor device performance, diagnose, and resolve technical issues proactively.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting • Provide on-site and hands-on technical support to resolve client hardware-related issues quickly. • Train clients on product usage and maintenance best practices. • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to minimize downtime. • Use diagnostic and test equipment: Use multimeters, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, signal testers, insulation testers where appropriate, and other diagnostic tools to verify continuity, voltage, current, grounding, polarity, signal integrity, sensor output, and device communication during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. • Assemble and troubleshoot basic circuits: Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot basic electrical and electronic circuits used in IoT deployments, including soldering, crimping, ferruling, cable dressing, labelling, use of connectors, terminal blocks, DIN rail components, fuses, relays, power supplies, and enclosure-mounted components.
Solution Architecture, Costing & Commercial Implementation • Design practical, cost-effective IoT deployment architectures based on each customer's site conditions, operational requirements, asset criticality, connectivity constraints, safety requirements, and project outcomes. • Translate customer requirements into clear solution architecture proposals, including recommended sensor types, gateway placement, network/connectivity design, installation approach, data flow, edge/cloud integration, and deployment methodology. • Prepare the technical and cost structure for proposed deployments, including hardware quantities, installation effort, manpower requirements, third-party vendor costs, logistics, testing requirements, maintenance assumptions, and implementation timelines. • Work closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Delivery teams to ensure that proposed solutions are technically feasible, commercially viable, and aligned with our margin and budget expectations. • Support customer-facing technical discussions by explaining the proposed architecture, implementation approach, deployment assumptions, trade-offs, and cost drivers clearly and credibly. • Help secure customer buy-in by addressing technical concerns, clarifying scope boundaries, managing expectations, and ensuring that customers understand what is included and excluded in the proposed implementation. • Evaluate alternative deployment options and recommend the most practical approach that meets the customer's required outcomes without over-engineering, unnecessary customisation, or avoidable cost escalation. • Negotiate technical scope, implementation assumptions, site requirements, and deployment dependencies with customers and vendors to ensure the project remains achievable within the approved budget and timeline. • Act as a technical-commercial gatekeeper during implementation, ensuring that field decisions, design changes, manpower usage, hardware usage, and vendor involvement remain aligned with the agreed scope, budget, and project outcomes.
Quality Assurance & Compliance • Ensure all deployments adhere to safety, quality, and industry standards. • Revisit sites for routine maintenance checks and client follow-ups. • Work with QA to validate device performance and system reliability. • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company installation standards. • Escalate unsafe or non-compliant conditions: Stop work and escalate immediately and resolve safely if any unsafe condition, unclear electrical scope, damaged equipment, unauthorised wiring, missing isolation, inadequate grounding, overloaded circuit, exposed conductor, or non-compliant installation is identified. • Comply with electrical safety and engineering standards: Carry out work in accordance with applicable laws, client site safety rules, company method statements, risk assessments, permit-to-work procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and relevant national engineering standards and codes of practice, including Singapore electrical installation requirements where applicable. Singapore's electrical installation regulations refer to SS 638 Code of Practice for Electrical Installations, and SS 650 for certain temporary electrical installations.
Reporting & Documentation • Prepare deployment reports, including resource usage, timelines, and technical outcomes. • Read and interpret electrical documentation: Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, pin-out specifications, terminal layouts, equipment manuals, and installation drawings to correctly install and connect IoT sensors, gateways, edge devices, power supplies, relays, and communication modules. • Document installation processes and client interactions in our CRM. • Maintain detailed technical documentation for future reference and process improvements. • Prepare or update installation records, wiring markups, test results, photos, asset registers, as-built drawings, and commissioning reports. • Maintain installation quality and documentation: Ensure all wiring, cable routing, labelling, terminations, enclosures, glands, connectors, and mounted components are installed neatly, safely, and maintainably.
KEY REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related field. • 2–3 years of experience in IoT hardware deployment, field engineering, or related roles. • Proficient with at least one scripting or programming language • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Significant experience in on-site installation and technical support in an IoT and technology environment • Proficiency in IoT device setup, calibration, and troubleshooting. • Familiarity with industrial sensors and communication protocols, including but not limited to HTTP, MQTT, Zigbee, LoRaWAN, and NTP • Self-driven and able to work independently and manage on-site responsibilities effectively. • Strong communication skills and ability to work in client-facing situations. • Excited about working onsite and traveling locally and internationally for deployments. • Experience with edge devices, gateways, and cloud integration. • Experience supporting solution design, site surveys, technical proposals, deployment costing, or implementation planning for IoT, industrial automation, electrical, mechanical, or technology projects. • Ability to balance technical requirements with commercial realities, including cost control, project margins, manpower planning, vendor costs, and scope management. • Strong customer-facing communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions, justify implementation choices, manage expectations, and negotiate practical deployment trade-offs. • Commercial awareness and ownership mindset, with the ability to think on behalf of the company and protect project profitability while still delivering successful customer outcomes. • Ability to identify scope creep, cost overruns, technical risks, and implementation constraints early, and escalate or resolve them proactively.
