Description
Asian School of the Environment / Earth Observatory of Singapore Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Digital Twins for Resilience
The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) ( is an interdisciplinary school at Nanyang Technological University(NTU) that uses Earth and environmental science, engineering, technology, and the social sciences to address key environmental challenges. ASE is a school within the NTU College of Science (CoS). The Earth Observatory of Singapore(EOS) (https:///) is a research institute with the mission to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.
Position ASE and EOS seek to appoint an accomplished and visionary scientist as an
Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Digital Twins for Resilience.
We are looking for a researcher whose work advances digital twin-inspired approaches to the resilience challenges posed by geohazards, climate extremes, and cascading environmental risks in Southeast Asia and beyond. We welcome applicants whose work bridges observation, modelling, and decision making under uncertainty -- integrating diverse data streams (remote sensing, in-situ sensor networks, geodetic and seismic observations, climate and hydrometeorological data) with physics-based and data-driven models to produce dynamic, validated representations of natural and coupled natural-human systems across different spatial and temporal scales. Candidate interests may include, but are not limited to: coupled climate-hydrology-coastal digital twins for flood, heat, and sea-level risk real-time data assimilation and uncertainty quantification at scale machine learning and GeoAI methods for prediction of extremes and tipping points frameworks for coupling heterogeneous models and data streams across environmental, infrastructure, and socio-economic domains dynamic representations of volcanic, seismic, or tsunami systems resilience of the coupled built-and-natural system (e.g., infrastructure under climate and geohazard stress), and the translation of dynamic system representations into risk communication, policy analysis, and decision support for agencies, communities, and the private sector. We are particularly interested in candidates who use digital twins and related system representations as scientific instruments for understanding complex Earth-system behaviour. Qualifications Candidates should have a strong track record of impactful, interdisciplinary research, demonstrated potential to secure major grants and build collaborative research networks, commitment to supervising and mentoring graduate students, and an interest in contributing to institutional or programmatic development in interdisciplinary environments. The successful candidate will have opportunities to convene and inspire diverse teams, fostering collaborations across disciplines and institutions to develop, pursue, and lead research initiatives that address pressing environmental and societal challenges. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field. The successful candidate will: 1. Build and lead a pioneering research programme in digital twins for environmental resilience 2. Pursue research projects and initiatives at regional and global scales 3. Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in ASE 4. Contribute to mentoring and academic leadership within NTU 5. Develop collaborations with researchers across NTU, Singapore, and internationally
We seek a diverse and inclusive workforce and are committed to equal opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit based on merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability. Emoluments The commencing salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package. Application package should include: . Cover Letter (what you have to offer and why you chose NTU) . Full Curriculum Vitae (CV) including . Research Statement including future activities (around 1-2 pages) . Teaching Statement (around 1-2 pages). . The names/emails of 3 individuals willing to provide letters of reference. References will only be contacted if you are shortlisted for the position. The search committee may seek additional references beyond those suggested by the applicant, as part of the assessment process applicants may indicate any individuals they prefer not to be contacted, along with a brief explanation. Applicants with outstanding academic achievements and high-impact potential with national or international recognition and sustained global contributions may be considered or nominated for professorship titles - Nanyang Assistant Professor (NAP),Provost's Chair Associate Professor and President's Chair Full Professor All applications and materials submitted will be held in strict confidence. The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications on
25 May 2026 and
will continue until the positions are filled. Only complete applications will be processed, and only shortlisted candidates will be notified. For further enquiries, pleasecontact
