Description
Job Description We are seeking an experienced Engineer for our client to support the development and integration of photonics test platforms for semiconductor and optical device applications. The role involves system architecture development, optical system integration, test strategy planning, and collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities System Architecture Define system architectures and develop test methodologies for photonics and optical device test platforms, including applications involving optical I/O components, modulators, photodetectors, ring resonators, interferometers, and related technologies. Develop optical link budgets, perform system-level simulations, and allocate performance requirements across subsystems such as lasers, modulators, detectors, drivers, and digital signal processing (DSP) components. Conduct engineering trade-off studies considering performance, manufacturability, scalability, and cost requirements. Support the development of parallel testing strategies to improve efficiency and throughput for high-volume manufacturing environments.
Optical & Photonics Collaboration Collaborate with optical and photonics engineering teams on silicon photonics PIC-related designs, including waveguides, Mach-Zehnder Interferometers (MZI), ring resonators, grating couplers, and associated optical structures. Review device models, simulation data, and test results to support design optimisation and performance validation. Evaluate optical coupling approaches such as grating couplers, edge coupling, fibre-array coupling, and free-space probing techniques. Support optimisation of alignment tolerance, insertion loss, signal integrity, and test stability requirements.
System Integration & Validation Work closely with electrical engineering teams to support integration of high-speed drivers, transimpedance amplifiers (TIA), and associated subsystems. Support system-level considerations including electromagnetic interference (EMI), thermal management, packaging integration, and reliability requirements. Develop wafer-level and module-level test strategies, characterization methodologies, and validation plans. Support yield improvement, process optimisation, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) initiatives.
Software & Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with software engineering teams on automation frameworks, tester integration, sequencing, and data acquisition systems. Work with external stakeholders including foundries, OSAT partners, packaging vendors, suppliers, and customers to support technical discussions, integration activities, and project execution. Prepare and maintain technical documentation in accordance with engineering and quality standards.
Job Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related disciplines. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in semiconductor, photonics, optical systems, or precision equipment engineering environments. Experience with precision motion systems, fibre-array alignment systems, probe stations, or related optical alignment technologies. Understanding of optical alignment considerations, system integration requirements, and precision engineering principles. Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing environments, cleanroom practices, and engineering quality standards. Experience in silicon photonics, optical communication systems, or photonics-related technologies. Familiarity with engineering and simulation tools such as Creo, LabVIEW, GD&T methodologies, ANSYS, EPLAN, MATLAB, or similar platforms. Exposure to automated test systems, characterization platforms, or high-volume manufacturing processes would be advantageous.
