Description
Overview
Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) – Research Engineer in the NAMIC Project for 3DP Ship Hull Design.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator, Co‑PI and research team to ensure all deliverables are met.
- Resistance Analysis – conduct simulations of wave interactions, buoyancy and stability of modular floating structures, and optimise designs for dynamic environmental conditions.
- Finite Element & Structural Modeling – develop and implement finite element models to evaluate structural integrity under load, and perform stress, strain and fatigue analysis of modular components and connectors.
- Stability Modeling – analyse static and dynamic stability of 3DP ship hull and collaborate with teams to develop a safe and efficient hull design.
- Design & Development of Connectors – design robust, durable connectors; validate their performance through simulations and physical testing.
- AM Process & Validation – oversee the additive manufacturing process and testing of the 3DP ship hull and connector system.
- Data Collection & Analysis – gather testing data for design optimisation.
- Reporting & Documentation – prepare detailed technical reports, present outcomes to stakeholders and maintain project documentation.
- Collaboration & Communication – work closely with multidisciplinary teams, material scientists and external partners, liaising for test site set‑up and equipment.
- Compliance & Safety – ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for the marine environment, and maintain high safety standards during field and laboratory operations.
- Research Documentation & Dissemination – produce technical reports, research papers and presentations, assist with project proposals and funding agency updates, and conduct risk assessments.
- Ensure timely execution of project milestones.
- Coordinate with external collaborators and manage data‑sharing protocols.
- Operate and maintain equipment independently or within a team.
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s or PhD in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in hydrodynamic modelling tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA) and finite element analysis software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS).
- Experience with stability analysis.
- Experience designing connectors or mechanical interfaces (plus).
- Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and materials.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data‑collection instruments and techniques.
- Excellent communication and report‑writing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in laboratory and field environments.
