Islamic philosophy in Andalusia is a unique phenomenon in the history of Islamic thought. Different from philosophy in the Eastern Islamic world which tends to be influenced by theology and Sufism, philosophy in the Islamic world Andalusia developed as an effort to revive pure philosophy which is considered to have been "brewed" by Al-Ghazali's criticism.
This tradition was built by Ibnu Bajjah, then reached its peak in Ibn Rushd's hands. As the first muslim philosopher in the West, its biggest contribution is his prestigious effort to bring "philic light" to the West after the East, philosophy has been sacrificed into science (theology) on the one hand and spiritual techniques (sufism) on the side Other. Philosophy has been reviewed from its purity roots.
Ibnu Bajjah then came like a savior. He traces a line of thought that is closer to Aristothelianism compared to Neoponicism which is dominant in East Islamic philosophy. His mind is greatly influenced by Al-Farabi. However, in contrast to Al-Farabi which developed philosophy with an empanation logic model, Ibnu Bajjah emphasizes the demonstrative (burhani) logic approach he developed, which is an embryo of the inductive sylogism system.
This book attempts to present the common lines of Ibnu Bajjah's thoughts, accompanied by a brief exploration of his life and his philosophical school which would later be peaked on Ibnu Rushd.
